You don’t need one as I am going to share with you the dating predictions for 2021. The predictions come from real data from popular dating app’s and what I have seen in the real world.
The first year of the new decade didn’t pan out like anyone expected! 2020 changed life as we know it, including dating. I know that the difficult year has changed what singles look for in a relationship, but the good news is that the pandemic changed things mostly for the better.
What trends can you expect to see in 2021? According to Bumble, hardballing, slow dating and new dawn daters will be big in 2021!
9 Dating Predictions/Trends for 2021
1. Hardballing is the Biggest Dating Prediction
For many singles, they felt that 2020 wasted precious time they didn’t have.
As a result, singles feel that they don’t have the time or energy to mess around in 2021. Singles don’t want to put up with crap relationships, date people who aren’t right for them or play games.
According to Bumble 46% of people on their app are now looking for something serious after experiencing loneliness during COVID lockdown. They want to date without confusion and game playing. The good news is that Bumble also found that 38% feel more confident in speaking up about what is and isn’t right for them. With 36% feeling confident letting someone know they aren’t the right person for them. In 2021 there will be an increase in honesty. Good news, right!
2. Slow Dating is also a Big Dating Prediction
Courting and taking things slowly will be a trend in 2021. I have seen this irl and Ok Cupid confirms it will be an ongoing big trend in 2021. So slow down, relax and get to know someone without pressuring them or trying to make it happen.
Singles want real connections, deeper conversations, more romance, and an emotional connection before a physical one.
Lose the talk about sex, really get to know someone and build a meaningful connection if you want to get results. The virtual date will continue as a lead-up to meeting in person as it allows that connection to go beyond the superficial. One of the good things about the pandemic is it gave people time to actually work out what is and isn’t right for them.
3. Outdoor and Adventure Dates
In 2021 singles will place a greater value on meeting face to face as that was something that was difficult in 2020. COVID highlighted the value of outdoor and adventure dates and this will continue as a trend in 2021. The outdoors provides low-cost, fun dates that build a real connection especially if you try something that scares you a little! When doing something fun you get a dopamine hit that gives you a good feeling and that will extend to the person you are on a date with. I want to share a secret with you, when you do something slightly scary it increases your heart rate, in the same way, as when you are attracted to someone. As a result, when someone feels that increased heart rate it can feel just like attraction.
Doing outdoor, fun dates will get a much better result than quick coffee dates.
4. Being Real
Singles are tired of messing around, 2020 highlighted what they really want.
They are looking for real, authentic people and this will be more important than ever in 2021.
This will apply to dating in person and your online dating profile. It’s time to lose the cookie-cutter profile that is bland and sounds like everyone else’s. Your photographs and profile need to show who you are and singles want to be able to see and taste your personality.
5. Technology
Technology in the dating space will continue to grow and evolve in 2021. Think chatbots, algorithms and innovation. Each year tech is evolving at a rapid rate and many of the apps allow you to go on a video date on their platform without even exchanging contact details as well as providing you protection.
Dating apps will continue to use more artificial intelligence (AI) to tailor your online experience. Things like suggesting where to go on a first date tailored to the person you are talking to, prompts of what to say that works, prompts to suggest to go on a date rather than continue talking, etc.
In the future, there will be wearable devices that will track the type of person you are attracted to and then match you accordingly. Of course, that still doesn’t guarantee they will be attracted to you!
6. Astrolove
For many 2020 was the most unpredictable year they have ever experienced. When things are unpredictable people look for answers and it has been predicted that 2021 will see a rise in astrolove! This is where singles are looking to date people who are compatible with them according to star signs! Surprising, right!
7. Locodating
COVID has made long-distance dating particularly difficult. In the past, you may have been open to the possibility of the romance of the long-distance relationship! Yet COVID and lockdown killed that idea for many. In 2021 it is much more appealing to date locally where you can actually meet someone. So, locodating will be big in 2021.
8. New Dawn Daters
For those in relationships, COVID made good relationships stronger and poor relationships break up. As a result, there is what is referred to as the new dawn daters! A large number of newly single people who broke up as a result of the pressures of the pandemic. In 2021 they will be ready to get back out and date. According to the stats, it could be as high as 1 in 5! Sad but true.
9. Dating someone with the Same Views
The world in 2020 was full of fires, pandemics, Black Lives Matter Rallies and unfortunately, #metoo was still an issue. This brought home to many what was important and how politics, race and gender matter. Singles want to date people with the same political views, gender views and racial views as them. Surprisingly, places like rallies were where singles started to meet at the end of 2020.
